The Realtek Controller Was Not Found
Realtek Ethernet not showing in adapter settings. I ran the Ethernet Controller Driver and after. Manual install of Dell driver and a manual install of Realtek. It says in the uninstallation, “realtek gbe & fe ethernet pci-e nic driver” and not “Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller” it seems that it doesnt match with your posting. I dont know the chipet number because it is built with the DELL pc. Win 8.1 and win 10 suck, i am trying to go back to xp. I went to the msinfo32 link and the Realtek Ethernet Controller was not listed, at least I could not find it. Here is a screenshot of that section of msinfo32: Screenshot of msinfo32- Components- Network- Adapter (033114).jpg.

There is no 'Network Adapter' listed in Device Manager any more. I turned it on and it was gone and could not connect to anything. No other hardware changes, no software changes, no damage.
I selected 'Show Hidden Devices', it showed 'Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller'. Disable was greyed out and under properties it said this device is not working properly because it not connected.
I read online and decided to uninstall the driver with the hope that restarting the computer would work. It did not. I reinstalled the driver, it says
The RealTek Network Adapter/Controller was not found.

I was initially having it tell me 'Findfile failed' but I fixed that by using seperate drivers instead of the ones on my Mobo driver CD.
I have :
Attempted to reinstall the drivers.
'The RealTek Network Adapter/Controller was not found.
If Deep Sleep Mode enabled Please Plug the Cable'

Powered down the PC, remove CMOS battery and RAM, unplugged power cord and waited 45mins, pushed the power button, replaced the RAM, Cmos battery and power cord and turned the computer back on.
Used the BIOS to set to default optimised settings.
Updated the Bios from Gigabytes website using @Bios. This was successful but did not fix the issue.
Checked the BIOS for the controller. Under Peripherals it lists 'Lan Controller #1'. It was enabled. I have disabled and booted, then shut down and enabled and booted. Neither did anything.
I have installed the Realtek Ethernet Diagnostic Utility - it shows nothing exists for it to diagnose.
I have updated the chipset drivers provided by Gigabyte and I have updated the Intel Management Engine Interface. These were both successful but did not fix the issue.
Note : I do not have anything listed under 'Network Adapters' in Device Manager. Showing hidden devices shows a variety of things listed here such as 'WAN Miniport' and 'Microsoft 6to4 Adapter' but none of these are an actual network adapter.
System restore is not an option. Thanks for your help.

All these replies urging us to go to a website and download an updated ethernet controller driver are useless because you can't even access the internet without the ethernet controller, unless you have a second PC already hooked up to work with the internet. Go to the support Website :
- of the maker of your computer :
- or of the maker of your Motherboard if your computer is an assembled computer.
Eg.
Then make a copy of the ethernet driver, and then copy it onto the original PC to get it acces the intenet. Most people may have to go to a computer repair store and ask if they can buy the ethernet controller driver for their OS and PC on a CD or flashdrive, or instead, but an external Ehternet controller device and connect it to your PC via USB.
A few words of thanks would be greatly appreciated. Add comment

If you have a usb connector you can use that. Once its recognized as hardware to install you'll
be able to connect to the internet & look for your
drivers. I had a similar situation and was able to
find all xp drivers except the ethernet for gateway.
At the moment I don't need it though. It takes a
while to make it show up on your pc, but in your
case im sure you'll be fine trying that out

First find the web site for the motherboard manufacturer. You should find the drivers you need within the 'support' tab. Good Luck

Guys, I did some digging, and the ethernet controller is not a device, there is an adapter (probably wireless) that needs a driver. Lavalys' program Everest will tell you who makes the wireless adapter in your pc. If you can figure out who makes the wireless adapter on your own just install the drivers for it. Remember an 'ethernet controller' is not a device, it is a general useless description of a problem.
